Louisiana trooper shot in the head during traffic stop
The trooper, whose name has not been released, was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to local KLPC news. James Anderson, southwest Louisiana spokesman for state police.
The incident happened just before 2:45 p.m. on Highway 14 East and Fruge Road.
Louisiana State Police say a trooper was shot in the head Sunday afternoon by a man whose pickup truck had run into a ditch after being reported as driving erratically.
Steven Vincent is part of a family tradition of law enforcement and the armed services.
He said the truck door opened and the man, identified as Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, came out with the shotgun.
Edmonson said at some point during the stop, the driver shot the trooper. No word yet on his condition.
Daigle exited his truck and walked to Vincent, speaking to him and asking him if he was still alive, Edmonson said.
“As I perceive it, they rendered help to the trooper, they referred to as for assist utilizing the trooper’s radio, they usually detained the suspect”, stated Sgt.
The accused shooter was also taken to a hospital, according to Anderson, but it wasn’t clear why.
Maj. Doug Cain confirms that the officer was shot in the head. The message’s subject line was “Trooper Critically Injured – Prayers Needed”. Investigators told the AP that Daigle will face a charge of attempted murder of a police officer.
