Louisville’s Pitino awaits NCAA interview about sex scandal
Every day in practice is just utopia for me. After this self-imposed postseason ban, it is pretty clear the University of Louisville is more than just anxious that something happened. “There is a great student body and it’s everything I expected, so it was a well hard-fought game”.
Still, the pair gave respect to their short time at Louisville, thanking the fans and thanking their teammates for how welcoming and warm their time has been, despite the university’s attempt at damage control. Six schools will serve postseason bans this year for various NCAA infractions. I’ve seen my fair share of Cardinal low points.
But when Mike and Mike talked to Pitino on ESPN, they asked about his future plans.
Powell’s book, Breaking Cardinal Rules, co-written with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Dick Cady, came out in October past year.
At the time I had three nephews that lived in that dormitory. It is a long-winded sequence of events already, but as you and I both know, the worst is yet to come as far as the details are concerned.
Ramsey said the ban is for all postseason tournaments, including the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference tournaments. But that suggestion has little chance of being enacted any time soon, since the organization’s membership is made up of college administrators and athletic directors who by their have made it clear that treating the athletes that represent their institutions fairly is not a priority for them.
The Blue Devils have lost four of six against the Cardinals but won 63-52 at Louisville last season. 10 will also get a single bye, leaving only No. 11-14 to play it out. I called him the next morning and said, “Tom, are we sure we want to do this?”
But since the school announced a self-imposed postseason ban for this season, keeping the current squad from the ACC or NCAA tournament, Pitino has been on the interview circuit. Consultant Chuck Smrt, who worked for the NCAA for 17 years, said the investigation was ongoing and the university was bound by bylaws from speaking about the specifics of the case. Pitino says Jurich was the one who actually made the decision to self-impose the penalties and that Ramsey merely went along with the recommendation.
NO. 2 FALLS, TOO: Demetrius Jackson scored 19, and host Notre Dame (16-7, 7-4 ACC) rallied to beat No. 2 North Carolina 80-76.
The Cardinals host Boston College, Saturday before going to Duke, Monday.
With the way that Duke has been struggling on the defensive end of the floor without Amile Jefferson, that’s a stretch that could derail Duke’s season; entering Monday, all four of those games were losable.
The punishment affects the team’s two fifth-year seniors, graduate transfers Damion Lee (the team’s leading scorer) and Trey Lewis, the hardest, ending their hopes of playing in the NCAA Tournament. This Louisville team is now ranked 13th in the nation and was clearly headed to the NCAA Tournament, in fact some thought they might be able to make a deep run.
The players had a seperate press conference following practice at the Yum Center. The rest of the team stood behind them. “Trey and I were truly devastated”. “One girl walked out with $400 in one night”.
But the ban means no post-season, no NCAA Tournament.
Lewis echoed his coach and added, “We feel like the opportunity was taken away from us”. “This team doesn’t deserve this”. “It was very emotional”, Lewis said.
