Love: Woods could be vice-captain

“At the Ryder Cup we are always briefed earlier in the week by the rules officials and we don’t touch the ball until we hear either from our opposite number or we are told by the referees”.

But I would be disappointed if the home support wasn’t as loud and vocal as it should be.

The 43 year old from Chandigarh, India, is the son of Olympic athlete parents, his father a sprinter famously known as the flying Sikh, while his mother captained the Indian volleyball team.

“I think Tiger, if he is healthy for the whole year, will be fine”, added Love. We are the elder statesmen a little bit of the game now.

“It’s not only a great honour to be asked to captain the European EurAsia Cup but it’s a great opportunity to get a close hand look at a few younger guys who are doing well on the Tour, who could possibly qualify for the Ryder Cup team”, said Clarke.

Despite his desire to win, however, Love is confident that the best aspects of the game of golf will be on display. “It’s going to be a great week – the guys are really looking forward to it already”.

“Past captains have said the same thing, so we have a family now of willing participants, whether they are going to play or be assistant captains”.
