Low scoring a struggle at Blue Bay LPGA
As it turns out, that’s not such a bad score considering that only five of the 80 players were able to stay under par over 36 holes.
Windy conditions hit golfers again at China’s Blue Bay LPGA event on Saturday, as the previous day’s leader Kim Sei Young shared the top of the board with Candie Kung.
Overnight leader Lin Xi Yu started her second round brightly with two birdies in the first three holes to reach seven-under but her second round unravelled with seven bogeys as she carded a 77.
Lydia Ko began to rediscover her touch in the third round of the latest LPGA tournament in China but a second successive victory appears a distant hope. During the practice round, she said, she found the course “pretty tough”. “So I’m really satisfied with my game and my game today”.
Lin has also enjoyed a solid Asian swing with top seven finishes in Taiwan and Malaysia to rise up to 72 in the world rankings.
Blustering winds made scoring tougher as the day went on with the lead duo among a group of only 10 players under par, including American world number three Stacy Lewis (71).
Kim, chasing rookie of the year honors, has shown her best in the wind this year with two titles in Bahamas and Hawaii earlier in the season but said Blue Bay had been a step up after she mixed three birdies with five bogeys in Saturday’s round.
