Lowell police identify officer involved in shooting
Police were called to the home on Pine Hill Street around 8 p.m. and when they arrived and officer shot one of the suspect who was in the doorway. He’s charged with armed home invasion and assault with a handgun.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed administrative leave, which is standard protocol. Police said both had lengthy criminal records. Police said the suspect was conscious and treated at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in Boston.
The two victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Kieng gave medical aid to Berry and the victims once Berry was secured.
Police haven’t identified either suspect and also haven’t said if they believe it was a random crime or targeted.
“As the front door was opened, Timothy Berry, who was armed with a.45-caliber handgun inside, raised the firearm towards Officer Kieng, who fired several rounds from his department issued firearm, striking Berry twice, ” police wrote.
Police recovered handcuffs and fake police badges, as well as marijuana and cash. He will be processed and held at the Lowell Police Station, and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Lowell District Court with Covey, his co-defendant.
