LSU Blows It, Loses To Florida 16-10
LSU made it inside Florida’s 10-yard line with a 79-yard drive, but the Gators dropped their anchor once again for another goal line stop.
Cleveland hauled in a 98-yard touchdown pass that gave the Gators the lead over the Tigers and changed the momentum of the game completely.
When asked about the rhetoric that had been going on between Baton Rouge and Gainesville since UF officials postponed its October 8 home game because of the threat of Matthew, Gators coach Jim McElwain flashed a satisfying grin.
The game turned on consecutive plays in the third quarter. Florida corners Jalen “Teez” Tabor and Quincy Wilson headline a secondary that ranks first in the SEC in pass defense, only allowing 155 yards through the air per game. The Gators in all gained just 60 yards in the first two quarters.
Florida defeated LSU 16-10 today. Overall, the Tigers finished with 423 total yards. Now, the best LSU can do is beat Texas A&M on Thanksgiving to finish the season 7-4 with a 5-2 record under Orgeron.
LSU’s offense was surprisingly effective: We knew the Tigers could run the ball with Fournette and Derrius Guice.
There was another big question mark that arose Saturday and it involved arguably the best player in college football. Johnny Townsend averaged over 53 yards on his four first half punts. On fourth-and-gaol, Guice took the handoff and tried to leap over the middle of the Florida line, but he was hit in mid-air by defensive back Marcell Harris, who knocked the ball loose. Alabama rolled past Florida 29-15 last year, and all signs point to a blowout in this year’s rematch. On the ensuing punt, LSU almost forced a turnover when a ball came extremely close to brushing off of a Florida player, but a replay review determined no Gators had touched the football. Instead of limping as he has been in recent weeks, Garrett was harassing UTSA’s two quarterbacks all game. Fournette is dressed and on the field. However, the Tigers’ implosion proved Miles doesn’t own a monopoly on head-scratching defeats in Baton Rouge.
Georgia 35, Louisiana-Lafayette 21: In Athens, Ga., Isaiah McKenzie scored on a 55-yard run on Georgia’s first play and added a touchdown on an 82-yard punt return midway through the first quarter.
4th-and-1. Last play of the game. Chark said he never expected Fournette to play Saturday when the team arrived at Tiger Stadium.
LSU trailed 16-10 when Florida kicker Eddy Pineiro kicked a 34-yard field goal with 3:24 remaining. That left the SEC little choice but to postpone the game until both teams could buy out non-league opponents.
Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson, however, said the pre-game festivities started when one of LSU’s players got in his way during warmups.
“It’s the greatest feeling in the world man, because we just felt disrespected”, UF defensive lineman Caleb Brantley said.
Fournette has rushed for 803 rushing yards on 121 carries with 8 touchdowns this season despite having missed three games because of an ankle injury. However, at the goal on third down, fullback J.D. Moore was stuffed.
LSU’s rush defense is just as big of a weapon for the Tigers as their pass defense is. It was an emotional win for McElwain and his club as we saw him shed tears in his post game interview telling the nation how they were banged up but stayed together and never anxious.
