LSU Confirms Les Miles Is Still The Tigers’ Head Coach
With rumors swirling all week that this game might be their head coach’s last one in Tiger Stadium, LSU put the noise to the side and delivered a gutsy performance to finally notch a victory in November.
Some of the very aspects of LSU’s game that have bothered Miles’ critics for years showed up against the Aggies (8-4, 4-4). The movement to save Les made its way to Death Valley Saturday night.
It was a pre-game curtain call that rivaled some of the loudest cheers in Tiger Stadium.
As for Alleva? Not so much.
Prior to Alleva’s comments, LSU players carried Miles off the field on their shoulders.
Miles asserted that LSU’s offense is in pretty good shape because of its running game, which accounted for 244 yards against an A&M defense coached by former LSU coordinator John Chavis. Most of his completions came on check downs to running backs, including a critical third-down swing pass to Leonard Fournette for a 17-yard gain that sustained the Tigers’ final scoring drive. Tailback Derrius Guice lost four yards. In the third quarter, Fournette broke the school’s single-season rushing record that was previous held by Texas native Charles Alexander. “Do we want to consider change?”
LSU climbed back into college football’s top 25 rankings in both the Associated Press poll and the Amway coaches top 25 poll.
Miles said Alleva told him following the game that he would not be fired.
The Tigers also have been inconsistent on special teams under Bradley Dale Peveto.
“He’s a great player”, defensive lineman Miles Garrett said.
After the scene Saturday, to fire Miles would only bring more heat to the LSU administration that handled this situation so poorly in the last few weeks.
Anthony reiterated he’s 100 percent committed to LSU. It was the first time LSU took the first lead of a game since it went up 7-0 on Western Kentucky on quarterback Brandon Harris’ 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Malachi Dupre in the first quarter on October 24 and went on to win 48-20.
Whether you believe that Miles won that title because of his outstanding job of coaching a talented group of young men to the pinnacle achievement of their young adult lives, or if you just think he got lucky by inheriting Saban’s leftovers, is a moot point. “I’m glad he’s my coach and I’m looking forward to keep playing for him”.
