LSU Fires Les Miles And Offensive Coordinator
Multiple sources have confirmed to WAFB that LSU has fired head football coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, less than 24 hours after an 18-13 loss at Auburn.
The 62-year-old Miles won a national title for LSU and went 114-34 leading the Tigers.
According to Fox Sports, defensive line coach Ed Orgeron could become the team’s interim head coach. The decision was made Sunday afternoon in a discussion involving LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, LSU President F. King Alexander and other university leaders.
The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger first reported the news of the Miles and Cameron firings. Many believed Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher was the Tigers’ target should they have fired Miles last season. LSU will have to play the next eight regular season games with an interim staff.
Quarterback Brandon Harris performed poorly in a loss to Wisconsin in the opener.
Both Miles and Cameron were almost let go late past year, and both came into the 2016 season with an extremely tight leash. Orgeron previously served as the interim head coach at USC when Lane Kiffin was sacked in the middle of the 2013 season. Miles had been with the program since 2005 taking over for Nick Saban, who left for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.
There is no word on Miles’ next move and if he will be interested in coaching again.
