LSU pulled offer to Tom Herman after he backtracked
Shortly after having the interim tag removed from his title Saturday, LSU football coach Ed Orgeron talked about recruiting the juniors who may be thinking about leaving the Tigers for a shot at the NFL.
Orgeron, the 55-year-old coach who officially won the LSU job Saturday morning, the school announced in a news conference, is now on the hunt to revamp his coaching staff – mainly a big-name, high-powered offensive coordinator.
Texas A&M cut to deficit with touchdowns three times after that, but each time LSU responded with TDs of its own to keep the game out of reach. Orgeron went 5-2 as interim coach, including Thursday’s victory over Texas A&M. Coach Orgeron has demonstrated his ability to run this program with excellence, even under hard circumstances. Orgeron can sell a program, and selling LSU to football prospects isn’t exactly the hardest task on the planet. Orgeron, who has a home in Mandeville, said he drove really fast to get to LSU and soon after agreed on the head coaching job. After seven years as a USC assistant, he went 10-25 as head coach at MS in 2005-2007 before he was sacked.
“He’s happy and I’m happy”, Orgeron said.
Alleva called Orgeron one of the finest recruiters in the country and said his losing record at Ole Miss “was a long time ago”.
“Those guys are great guys for us”, Orgeron said. “There’s two things I’ve said that I would do after Ole Miss is I was going to treat the team like my sons and show them that I care about them, and give the coaching staff the ability to coach”.
What is true is that Oregeron seemed to help spark the team to playing with a little more emotion and consistency on offense, and even though it’s not the number one thing the AD is probably looking for, there is something to be said for a coach the players love. We have some great coaches on our staff right now, led by (defensive coordinator) Dave Aranda.
Orgeron said he expects to lure an elite offensive coordinator who’ll be adept at running a spread offense, which he sees as a requirement in the modern game. In addition, the source indicated there is a “strong level of confidence” that Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will join Orgeron’s staff.
An emotional Orgeron took to the podium and thank the board of supervisors, his family, choking up while thanking his mother and father, and most of all the LSU football players.
Sources told The Advocate that Orgeron will get a five-year deal paying him between $3 million and $4 million per year – less than what Miles was making and less than what LSU would have been expected to pay other top coaches, such as former Houston and new Texas coach Tom Herman or Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher.
If Coach O gets his way, Carroll may be pleased with whom LSU hires as its offensive coordinator, too. “I know how he is”.
“Here we are three weeks later, and we are unranked (in College Football Playoff rankings)”, Knight said.
Mom: I know you think that girl in your general studies class is a 10, and yes, she’s a lovely girl, but she’s not good for you.
As a player, Orgeron was a four-year starter on the defensive line for Northwestern State, captaining the Demons as a senior.
