LSU puts powerful running game on display in win over South Carolina
Harris, also a sophomore, had a career game under center for LSU.
They return home this week and hope to host Vanderbilt on Saturday before an off week.
But what the tailgating scene lacked in numbers, it made up for in hospitality.
Even Fournette took notice of Guice’s performance.
However, the Gamecocks couldn’t slow the Tigers’ rushing attack. He has seen most of his action this season in the second half of games at cornerback and was suspended the first half of the UCF contest because of missed classes. “People are up walking to me and giving me change out of their pockets”. The kickoff return touchdown was the first in Tiger Stadium since October 9, 1999.
Crowds were unusually sparse, with an entire upper deck on the east side of the stadium empty.
The attendance on Saturday was 42,058.
“Because of the situation, I think it’s possible it could get approval from the different agencies involved with this to donate the funds raised from auctioning his jersey to the relief fund”, said LSU senior associate athletic director Miriam Segar, the school’s former compliance coordinator.
“I get frustrated watching our guys”, USC’s head coach said after a 45-24 loss. “I told them to put him in there, so that was my best call of the game”. The weird stuff was yet to come. LSU tallied 396 yards on the ground after previously notching over 400 yards rushing against Auburn last month.
“It was touching”, Kaufman said. “Geaux Gamecocks” was quickly added to billboards around town as well and at the stadium.
“First I’d like to read something I typed for the people of South Carolina”.
On any other Saturday, LSU fans would have booed the procession.
Orth praised the LSU community for welcoming their football program and going out of their way to make them feel at home.
In 2005, LSU was the home team in Arizona State’s stadium after relocating an originally scheduled home game because of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.
Nobody on the South Carolina roster was directly affected by the flooding in the state, according to Spurrier. A football game is such an enormous undertaking in the Southeastern Conference, utilizing more than players and university faculty. Once the game started, the No. 7 Tigers (5-0, 3-0) pulled away for a 45-24 victory over South Carolina (2-4, 0-4 SEC).
“Special teams were very sloppy”, said Miles.
“This area understands kind of what we’re going through right now with Katrina”, Orth said. “It was nice to see the fans cheering us on”.
So what was all this for?
Even a pass that deflected off the hands of Tigers’ tight end DeSean Smith ricocheted a la Bluegrass Miracle to Travin Dural, who caught the ball in stride for a 65-yard TD that gave the Tigers a 31-10 lead with 6 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter.
This game was the best possible lead in to a tough matchup with Florida the Tigers could have hoped for. “But they were just pounding it”.
Perhaps the most meaningful adjustment to the game was the hardest one to spot.
