LSU student doesn’t want Tiger players charged
No formal charges will be filed against three LSU football players including quarterback Anthony Jennings for allegedly going into a house without permission in June.
Earlier on Friday, NOLA.com’s Jim Kleinpeter reported Hillar Moore III, the East Baton Rouge Parish district attorney, would no longer pursue any charges against Jennings, Bain or Thomas. “Although the conduct of these students in this situation is unacceptable, it is not one, based on the facts that warrant prosecution, although their actions could have subjected them to such”.
All three have been suspended since their arrest on June 18, throwing a wrench into the heated starting quarterback battle between Jennings and sophomore Brandon Harris. “I’m taking my time to get it right”.
This isn’t that much of a surprise – the alleged unlawful entry was more of a “college kids doing stupid things” situation than a violent altercation. They did so with the presumed intent to retrieve items said to have been stolen from Jennings’ apartment on June 10 – a MacBook Air, three pairs of shoes and a PlayStation 4.
Jennings, a former Marietta, Ga., standout, and teammates Maquedius Bain (defensive tackle) and (defensive back) Dwayne Thomas were reinstated on Friday after the three were indefinitely suspended following a June incident.
UPDATE: And just like that…
… Thomas also was booked with simple burglary.
Regardless, the recent developments in the case show that the suspended LSU football players will be rejoining the team sooner rather than later.
Jennings filed a police report for the stolen items. Both players participated in the opening day of camp.
“Unfortunately this seems to happen every year”, Moore said.
Bonnette added that Miles plans for Jennings, Bain and Thomas to return Wednesday, with the trio facing further in-house punishment. Moore said he was still reviewing the matter at the time, though, and had to look at transcripts of interviews with Anderson.
