LSU Tigers Rumors – Les Miles is Probably on his Way Out
Not only is it respectful of Les Miles (a man he worked for) but it’s just practical. Today, the Tigers have dropped three consecutive games for the first time since 1999, when coach Gerry DiNardo lost an appalling eight in a row.
Miles was asked three question about his job status at his weekly press conference on Monday. The question is valid, at some point in time there is a “me” in this. “Obviously, I’m the coach, or something else happens, and obviously I’m not the coach”. Granted, play has been sloppy lately, but that doesn’t mean the team is done for the season.
“I don’t want to talk about that”, defensive tackle Christian LaCouture said of the Miles speculation. “That’s a policy in which I have – I’m not going to comment on any job in any way shape or form”.
Miles is 110-33 overall at LSU for a. 769 winning percentage and is 60-27 in the SEC for a. 689 winning percentage with a national championship in the 2007 season, a national championship game appearance in the 2011 season, SEC titles in 2007 and ’11 and SEC West titles in 2005, ’07 and ’11.
LSU boosters are so unhappy with Les Miles they are willing to buy out the remaining roughly $15 million on his contract to get rid of the title-winning coach.
If Miles’ $15 million buyout isn’t an issue, as NOLA.com’s James Smith wrote over the weekend, then matching a more attractive compensation package shouldn’t be too hard to put together.
Poor showings in recent games appear to be the main factor for LSU athletic director Joe Alleva and his athletic board.
Miles, a former offensive lineman, spends much of his time in the O-line meeting room. So LSU has a worse coordinator this year in Kevin Steele and an ongoing lawsuit with Chavis over whether he breached his contract by leaving for Texas A&M and owes LSU $400,000. “He doesn’t want it to create that much of a distraction”. I must respectfully disagree with my cohort – Les Miles is a coaching legend and deserves a chance. “As long as he’s our coach, we’re standing behind him fully”.
“It’s tough to hear all of that stuff, but we’ve got to ignore all of it and get back to work this week”, he said. “We realize he’s a great coach”.
Redshirt freshman offensive guard Will Clapp said Miles recruited him personally and paid an in-home visit to him while at Brother Martin. “Unless they pull my scholarship that’s where I’ll be playing college ball”. And there is no job opening.
Sophomore receiver John Diarse filled in while Dural was on the sideline for most of the Ole Miss game, but LSU spread the ball out without its second-leading receiver.
After its first two planned performances were canceled, the school announced rock band 3 Doors Down will play alongside The Golden Band from Tigerland during halftime of the Texas A&M game Saturday. “I would be not doing my job as the head coach at LSU”.
“The nature of the business”, he said. “I do not know about Travin”, Miles said. I wouldn’t expect a decision anytime soon, but you never know in College football. “I think we’re going to have to see on that one”.
