Lufthansa plane in near-miss with drone during Warsaw landing
BERLIN/WARSAW A Lufthansa stunt plane with 108 tourists on the boat almost collided with a drone mainly because it came to Warsaw’s most important flight terminal on Monday evening, to the tune of said on Tuesday.
The spokesman for Warsaw’s airport, Przemyslaw Przybylski, said today that the incident happened yesterday afternoon, and the drone was within 100 metres of the plane arriving from Munich.
Lufthansa spokeswoman Bettina Rittberger was more hesitant about declaring the object a drone.
With the use of commercial drones for applications from filming to sports events and agriculture booming, the European Union is now working on new regulations for drones to protect the safety and privacy of its citizens.
The crew of the Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-195 flight reported the near collision at 2,500 feet and redirected the plane’s path.
Karpinski said he considered the incident serious. It said helicopters and an air force plane flew over the area where the drone appeared but didn’t find it.
To try and combat the increasing risk of these small aircraft entering restricted airspace the UK Police have bought their own drones which will patrol the perimeters of the UK’s largest airports.
