Luis Enrique: Messi not near his best against Roma
“That win has certainly helped us focus on what we need to do in that regard”.
Whilst it would take a remarkable collapse for Barca not to qualify, Roma have it all to play for in their final two group games if they are to make the last 16 for the first time in five years.
A former Real Madrid coach Carlo Anceloti has spoken about the return of Lionel Messi to the Barcelona squad. “The draw between Borisov and Leverkusen leaves fate in our hands”.
“He still needs to get back into the rhythm of playing matches”.
After their near-perfect display against arch-rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona were back in business yet again, this time against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League.
Messi and Suarez each scored twice, with both of Suarez’s goals coming before halftime.
Suarez tapped home the opener and then Messi finished off a sublime move, before Suarez volleyed in his second.
An unmarked Gerard Pique tapped home a fourth early in the second half before Messi bagged his brace from a rebound.
Messi completed his double having been found by Suarez and while Szczesny blocked his first shot he bundled in the rebound after 60 minutes.
Marcelo had to clear a Suarez effort off the line moments before halftime after brilliant work from Neymar and as the players trooped off, a cacophony of whistles rang out around the stadium mixed with chants for Perez to go.
Szczesny saved a Neymar penalty after he was fouled by Salih Ucan but Adriano fired in the loose ball after 77 minutes. The Brazil forward, who has scored 39 goals in 2015 for Barca, had four efforts on goal.
“It’s obviously better to play a Barca without him. Now we have very important games ahead of us, such as the World Club Championship (in December), I hope we can keep it up”, said the striker, whose words were reflected by coach Luis Enrique.
The best part of this goal isn’t the incredible finish from Messi, which is superb and other worldly, it’s the play amongst Messi and Luis Suarez.
