Luis returns to Atletico
The Premier League champions are on the hunt for a new left=back following reports Felipe Luis is set for a return to Atletico Madrid.
Would Baba Rahman fall into the Filipe Luis trap at Chelsea? As a veteran, he was signed to compete with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic, but barring injuries or suspensions, those two remained our first-choice full back pairing throughout the season.
The Brazil worldwide won his 18th cap at the recent Copa America in Chile where he featured in all his country’s matches before they lost in a quarter-final penalty shoot-out to Paraguay in June.
But Atletico boss Diego Simeone jumped at the chance to re-sign Luis, agreeing a deal worth around the same as his fee last summer.
“We are now reinforced with one of the most talented full-backs in the world”. I really want to thank Chelsea Football Club for an awesome year playing and living as a Blue.
A statement on Chelsea’s official website announced simply: “We wish him all the best for the future”.
The 29-year-old made 26 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and helped the club to both Barclays Premier League and Capital One Cup successes in his solitary season in England.
