Lukaku has withdrawn transfer request, Everton boss Koeman says
Romelu Lukaku has withdrawn his transfer request and committed his future to Everton, manager Ronald Koeman has revealed.
However, Koeman says the Belgian simply walked into his office and told his manager he had changed his mind.
Lukaku came off the bench to help Everton come from behind and secure a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
And Koeman said: “He spoke to me yesterday morning that he has made the decision himself to stay one more season at Everton, and that’s great news”.
And the Everton boss has dealt a blow to Conte’s pursuit of Lukaku by confirming the striker will remain at Goodison Park for at leasy one more season.
Lukaku, 23, had been strongly linked with a switch away from Goodison Park after admitting his desire to play for a Champions League club.
Writing in his column in Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Koeman believes the striker’s declaration of commitment has the “same value as a big money transfer”. “Whether we will get them or not we will see”, said Pulis, who added that he was impressed by his side’s display despite the result.
“It gave a different situation for us in the dressing room and a different situation for West Brom”. When they scored its even more hard to create.
The 32-year-old has been offered a new contract at St Mary’s which would make him the best payed player in Claude Puel’s squad but the South Coast club are allegedly becoming resigned to losing the Portugal defender. The second half began with a series of chances for either side to take the lead – before Everton eventually obliged on the hour. I think it was a well-deserved win.
