Lupita Nyongo’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character Revealed! Meet Maz
We probably won’t see Luke until the climax of the film, and I bet fans will be hyped to see him when he finally shows up. Unfortunately, the director refused to share details about who Kanata is talking to in the voice over for the recently released TV spot. “I know your eyes”. “Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed”.
Originally, Abrams meant to use a puppet to play Maz, but he realized that performance capture would work better given what her character is required to do. “She’s referred to as General”, Abrams told EW’s Anthony Breznican.
But it turns out Carrie’s return to the big screen went a lot smoother than the life her alter ego has been living since we last saw “Star Wars” on the big screen more than 10 years ago. There, she came upon General Leia (Carrie Fisher) standing next to Han, C-3PO, a Monday Calamari and others.
Nyong’o did motion capture for the character, who is an alien pirate Rey, Finn, and Han meet up with at a few point in the film.
Apparently Leia has gone over to the khaki side and is now spoken about in military terms in The Force Awakens, with Abrams telling Entertainment Weekly that: “She’s referred to as General”.
The Force Awakens sees Abrams take over the director’s chair of the Star Wars series for the first time and this is his first feature since Star Wars Into Darkness back in 2013.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, who co-wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan, the seventh installment of the Star Wars saga opens in theaters on December 16 in France, in the United Kingdom on December 17, and in the USA on December 18, 2015.
“Maz needed to look and feel and be just like one of those creatures”. “But the performance was all Lupita”.
