Lush announce first show in 20 years
Lush will play London venue the Roundhouse on May 6th, with tickets going on sale this Wednesday (September 30th) at 9am – link.
Reunion announcements from Ride, Bellevue, and the Bay City Rollers are followed by today’s announcement that 80s/90s indie band Lush are set to re-form for a London gig in May next year, their first show since 1996. He joins Lush’s three surviving members, guitarist Emma Anderson, singer/guitarist Miki Berenyi, and bassist Philip King. For all the fans who have been pestering us to do this: thanks so much for your patience and support! The group pioneered a sound that would be called “Shoegaze” and signed with 4AD in ’89, where they would release three full-length albums. Ahead of that, they’ll be reissuing parts of their catalogue with 4AD and delivering a career-spanning box set. For this comeback show, Acland’s friend and Elastica drummer, Justin Welch, will be filling in on percussive duties.
We were tipped off to a potential Lush reunion last week when Anderson posted to Twitter “7 days” and the band launched a brand new website (www.lushofficial.com) and a new Facebook page that includes up to date contact info for publicists, booking agents, and a manager. Then in December they will release the Chorus limited edition box set. The band, most famous for their upbeat, reverb drenched singles like Sweetness and Light, Single Girl and the britpop crossover Ladykillers, stopped playing shows in 1996 after the tragic, untimely death of drummer Chris Acland. “The artwork for the boxset is by Chris Bigg, who, alongside design chief Vaughan Oliver, was responsible for the iconic 4AD covers in the Nineties”.
