LVG: ‘Very nasty’ Jamie Vardy can win Leicester the league
Leicester’s 28 goals lead the Premier League, while United has conceded just nine goals on the year.
Manchester United have the opportunity to move to the top of the Premier League table when Louis van Gaal’s side travel to league leaders Leicester City this evening.
Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin says they’ll be wary facing Jamie Vardy on Saturday at Leicester City.
“More or less, Van Nistelrooy is like Vardy”.
Does LVG reckon they can win the league?
“Of course (I am anxious about the fans)”, Van Gaal said Friday, “because the fans have to be happy”. If he scores during Saturday’s match, he will score in his 11th straight English Premier League match, breaking the consecutive scoring record he now holds jointly with former-United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
On Vardy he added: “He was already previous year a very nasty player for us”. “He scored, he provoked a penalty and now he is scoring 10 goals in a row so now you are a great player”.
Should the players revolt against his system (there are signs Wayne Rooney is growing more frustrated) and the goals fail to come, then even he could exhaust his “reservoir of goodwill” with the fans. I know they have good, strong players and their manager is a good organiser.
Kick-off at the King Power Stadium is set for 19:30 South African time.
But Van Gaal remains unworried about the criticism, responding: “We are still not lucky in finishing the chances”. And the 0-0 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday was too much for some.
Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera are all still doubtful, while Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw remain definite absentees.
While David Moyes never had the respect of the dressing room, “United’s squad knows its place under Van Gaal”, notes Ducker, which means no objections have emerged from within the camp.
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri recently laughed off Arsene Wenger’s claims of Leicester City being genuine title contenders calling the Arsenal manager a “joker”.
“No, we’re not”, Rooney said when asked if his team were ruthless enough.
The concern with Tottenham is that they had a long away trip to play in the Europa League on Thursday night and have the early kick-off slot tomorrow.
A deep defensive line will minimise the space Vardy can run into and limit the Foxes’ counter-attacking chances.
But in obvious terms the Israeli gaffer would want to see more football side of Manu at Brighton before concluding on handing him his debut Ghana call-up.
“The coach formed a really good team with a lot of characters from lots of different nations”.
