M1 crash leaves 2 dead after ‘car drove wrong way down motorway’
A high-speed crash that killed two men may have been caused by a auto travelling the wrong way down the M1 in Leicestershire, police have said.
Sadly, before the vehicle could be stopped it smashes into a blue Mazda carrying the elderly gentleman and the white Ford Transit van.
The driver of the van was taken to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition, reports the BBC.
The crash, near junction 24, happened at about 2am.
Ahead of the crash, police had received reports of auto travelling the wrong way along the southbound carriageway near Kegworth.
Highways England has announced that the road between junctions 24 and 25 was made unsafe by the accident and is now being resurfaced.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and closures are expected to remain in place until at least 10am.
Anyone who has information about the incident or saw either vehicle before the collision is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 23 of 12 October 2015.
