MacGyver is finally getting a reboot thanks to Furious 7 director
CBS is planning to make a “MacGyver” reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly, CBS has partnered up with Furious 7 director James Wan to produce a pilot for the new show. Starring Richard Dean Anderson, the show went on for seven seasons following the adventures of a secret agent-type of hero who used a variety of usual products to get himself out of tricky situations.
Wan had initially been on board to direct the proposed MacGyver movie from New Line back in 2012, only for the project to fall by the wayside.
As for MacGyver, this is not the first time a potential reboot has been discussed. Earlier this year, Wan told Crave Online what he felt about a “MacGyver” film which he had hoped would take off, saying his initial concept was to portray a young MacGyver in College at one of Boston’s top universities.
For instance, everyone has cell phones now.
The amount of TV show reboots we’re getting these days may be on the edge of “too many”, but the latest to be announced is a series that we’ve all, at least once, thought would be a good idea: the 80’s hit MacGyver. After “MacGyver” he also starred on “Stargate SG-1” (1997-2005).
CBS’s announcement that it is rebooting MacGyver comes as dozens of other properties from the 1980s and 1990s are also returning to the small screen. MacGyver was picked up for a spinoff, but it never made it past a pilot episode.
