Mackay sees in Chinese new year
Here is what we know.
China now has entered the week-long Spring Festival holiday, also known as Chinese or Lunar New Year, the most important holiday of the year for most Chinese.
After making a great dinner, in which there is no shortage of pork and fish to bring abundance and good luck, as well as the delicious “Dumplings”, the Chinese cram the temples on the 1st day of the new year to ask, above all, for the abundance of money.
An Australian study also found that dog walkers achieved at least 30 minutes of physical activity on more days per week than non-dog walkers, helping them to meet the 150 minutes of physical activity per week now recommended for good health.
When and where is it celebrated?
Today marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year 2018.
The new year begins with the appearance of the first “new moon” during the period January 21st to February 20th. The holiday officially last through Sunday, but celebrations continue unofficially over two weeks, Time said. Surprising, isn’t it? The Lunar New Year is celebrated in Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, North Korea, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. Traditionally, it is a time for families to gather, feast and honor assorted deities and ancestors.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a speech to a festival reception in Beijing Wednesday, extending Spring Festival greetings to all Chinese people.
The celebration is rich in stories and myths.
On Saturday, February 17, the Museum of Chinese in America will celebrate the new year with an afternoon of family-friendly, workshops, performances, arts and crafts, and food tasting.
KUHN: Every year, Chinese state television airs what, by some accounts, is the world’s most-watched program, a five-hour-long variety show – nearly as much of a tradition as grumbling about the same old propaganda-heavy song and dance numbers. The simple task of sweeping could sweep away wealth.
In this little shoulder bag, the iconic Radley scottie dog is bright red, which is a colour that symbolises happiness and good fortune in China. Children will receive the traditional red envelope filled with “lucky” money.
One of China’s most successful business families, the Beijing-based Kang family, now own and operate Fota golf course and the Kingsley Hotel.
I especially remember one dinner roughly 20 years ago, when as a nine-year-old I was unexpectedly fed a piece of meat by my mother. Apparently, it’s the Year of the Dog.
To help commemorate this year’s Chinese zodiac animal, we’d like to revisit the idea of whether or not your dog should wear a seatbelt when you take him or her for a ride in your vehicle. As part of the Year of the Dog, a number of events are planned that incorporate man’s best friend, including Tall Tail, a production in the Smock Alley Theatre, and dog life-drawing classes. So, each year has a corresponding animal to it and for 2018 it is the dog.
