Mackie & Stan Weigh In On Replacing Evans As Captain America
He said, “They’re like ‘Oh yeah, that’s where you pick up the shield, ‘ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’ve heard that one before”.
When he was asked again at this past weekend’s Salt Lake City Comic-Con (via the good folks over at The Salt Lake Tribune) who should wear the Red, White and Blues of the next Cap (between himself and Mackie), Stan now seemed ready to accept the mantle by replying with a smile “Myself”.
Notably, Steve Rogers courts Sharon Carter (played in the movie by Emily VanCamp), while Bucky Barnes has a rich and complicated relationship with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). It remains to be seen who gets to be Steve’s successor as the next Captain America, as now fans will be looking forward to watching the battle in “Captain America: Civil War“.
Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner actually got into a few publicity trouble during the press tour for Avengers: Age of Ultron when describing Black Widow as a “slut” for essentially making her way around the Avengers team.
The next Captain America: Bucky or Falcon?
Another Cap candidate, Anthony Mackie, wasn’t too keen in seeing Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, following in the footsteps of Chris Evans, either.

“I don’t think we need a new Cap”, he said. This announcement was met with all kinds of disdain and boo-hooing, as die-hard fans of the comics wailed with dissent at the decision to drastically change the appearance of the character in comparison to the source material. “We preach so much to kids that you can be anything you want to be, and then we follow it up with “except, ‘ and we have to leave that ‘except” off. I think I’d be a great Cap, but then we’re left without a Falcon”.
Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
“Stan added that he’s well aware of Marvel’s subtle hat-tips to his character’s potential storyline, notably a moment in The Winter Soldier where he lifts up Cap’s shield”.
