Macy’s severs Trump ties
“In light of Mr. Trump’s statements and the subsequent decisions made by NBC, I have decided not to participate as a judge in the 2015 Miss US pageant”, Smith said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico”, Macy’s said in a statement.
Macy’s said it would phase-out Trump’s menswear collection, which includes shirts, ties, cufflinks and suits and have been sold by the department store since 2004. His remarks described the immigrants as people who bring drugs into the country and as “rapists”. “We’re discussing a lot of different things but I wanted everyone to be assured that they’ll have the opportunity to watch it”.
Latino advocates lambasted Trump’s comments as irresponsible and bigoted.
Macy’s announcement follows an online petition in which more than 700,000 people called for the store to get rid of Trump.
Trump, who has stood by his statements on Mexican immigrants, accused his ex- business partners of pandering to special interests.
Donald Trump has announced he is severing his ties with Macy’s due to “pressure being put on them by outside sources”. He said he was never happy that the ties and shirts were made in China, and if he were to do another product line in the future, he would insist they were American-made.
Left without a broadcast partner, Trump plans to stream the pageant live on the Internet, and he says he’ll be there in person.
NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC, NBC News and Telemundo recently announced it would end its business relationship with Trump.
NEW YORK: Donald Trump has filed a $500 million lawsuit in the New York State Supreme Court against Univision after the company declined to air the Miss U.S. pageant. “The mission of the Miss Universe organization has always been to unite women from all over the world and celebrate different cultures”.
The Miss US pageant, set to take place July 12 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also lost both its co-hosts Tuesday, with “Dancing with the Stars” Cheryl Burke and MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts bowing out.
The AP report adds: “A day after Televisa, the Mexican TV network that airs Miss Universe, said there would be no telecast for the next contest, Miss Mexico pageant director Lupita Jones said Mexico would boycott Miss Universe“.
Trump subsequently told reporters that he would not back down on his views about immigration, telling CNN correspondent Athena Jones that he is considering legal action against NBC. “Believe me”.
