‘Mad Max’ sequel to not feature Theron’s Imperator Furiosa?
However, Miller himself said “Furiosa’s” inclusion in the “Fury Road” sequel is still unsure, despite Theron’s character outshining Tom Hardy’s in the first movie.
Miller did say that in one of the multiple new Mad Max stories that’s being discussed there is an interaction between Max and Furiosa, but it sounds like even that won’t be a major part of the film.
“I can’t really say more than that because it’s still in progress”, he added.
But a new interview between the madman behind Mad Max George Miller and Cinema Blend has revealed a few surprising insights for the slew of upcoming sequels that the success of Fury Road rendered all but inevitable. As the director told podcast host Jeff Goldsmith in May, the next film in the series is called “Mad Max: The Wasteland“-at least for now”.
Fury Road may not have been the summer’s biggest hit, but Charlize Theron’s Furiosa is the undisputed summer blockbuster hero (non-dinosaur division).
“I’m not sure, is the answer,” Miller says to the AV Club.
“That name came out, that was just a working title,” he said.
According to Miller, Theron’s butt-kicking battle-wagon driver could very likely become a one-movie star.
She engaged in bloody punch-ups and life-or-death fights along the dusty, perilous Fury Road and in the process won our collective hearts. I bought it last week and I’ve watched it 3 times since then, it feels so nice to have it once again safely nestled in the black matter of my brain. “We’re talking to the studio (Warner Bros.) about it… but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure”. But someone who won’t be returning is – deep breaths – Furiosa. Even though Max has to travel on and have his own adventures, there’s no reason why the narrative can’t branch out into further explorations of that weird world.
