Madonna stands by son Rocco following his arrest for drug possession
Rocco’s father, film director Guy Ritchie, is yet to comment.
Madonna defends her son, the singer released a statement and called her 16-year-old son’s arrest a “family matter”.
Madonna has asked for privacy as she and her ex-husband Guy Ritchie deal with their teenage son Rocco’s bust for marijuana possession. The couple divorced in 2008 and finally agreed in September to allow Rocco Ritchie to continue living with his father in London.
Guy eventually reached a settlement with his ex wife just hours before they were due in court in NY, agreeing Rocco would continue to live in London where he is at school.
Reports surfaced on Wednesday (November 23), alleging that Rocco, 16 (pictured below), was detained in London on September 28 after police found cannabis in his rucksack. Due to the high-profile nature of their suspect, North London police issued a statement following Rocco Ritchie’s arrest.
The police reportedly found Ritchie and a friend sitting on a wall and found a small quantity of weed in his backpack, as well as traces on his clothing.
Due to Camden Borough’s “Triage” youth justice scheme, Rocco won’t face a criminal record for his first offence, but will have to undergo a series of workshops instead. Madonna talked about the custody battle on stage and even visibly teared up.
Despite their rocky year, Madonna is sticking by her son.
Rocco’s shock drug arrest follows a tumultuous year for Madonna, Rocco and their family.
This year has been a troubled one for Rocco as his parents fought a lengthy and bitter custody battle for him.
Rocco reportedly became estranged from his mother after he abandoned her Rebel Heart tour last December (2015), amid reports that her strict behaviour “pushed him over the edge” after she allegedly confiscated his phone. While a New York Supreme Court judge ruled at the time that the teenager should return home to his mom, Ritchie’s lawyer chimed in to say that Rocco didn’t want to come back.
