Magic, Fournier agree on a five-year deal
Free-agent forward Jeff Green agreed on the structure of a one-year, $15 million deal with the Orlando Magic, a person with direct knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
The Magic will be Green’s fifth team in the National Basketball Association after playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Green split last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds. Earlier this week, the Magic extended a qualifying offer to Fournier in order to be able to match any offers he received. The 23-year old developed into a full-time starter over the next three years and rewarded Orlando’s faith with a breakout 2015-16 season.
A max contract was set to be sent Fournier’s way which would have been worth around $95 million dollars over four years so this leaves the Magic with many possibilities. His team-high 40 percent from beyond the arc is his largest selling point, as the Magic look to add shooting this offseason. Fournier was a restricted free agent. They moved Ilyasova in the trade for Serge Ibaka, which sounds like great value until you realize they also gave up Domantas Sabonis and Victor Oladipo as well.
