Magnitude-6.2 quake hits Afghanistan-Tajikistan border
People in the valley came out of their homes bearing the December chill in the midnight and stayed out for a reciting prayers.
Delhi-NCR, parts of Rajasthan and other areas in North India felt the tremors too.
According to the National Seismology division of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the quake occurred at 12:44 a.m. However, there is no report of any loss of life or damage to property.
Thankfully the natural disaster with its epicenter near Afghanistan-Tajikistan border hasn’t caused any damage (at least till the time of this report going to press).
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the earthquake’s magnitude was 6.2 and its focal depth was 203 km in Ashkasham area of Afghanistan.
The tremors were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir where there was widespread panic. “We are gathering information to be absolutely certain”, said a senior officer of the state government.
This comes as a powerful quake jolted Afghanistan including capital Kabul in the month of October with Richter scale recorded at 7.5 magnitude.
