A young couple were seen in the video being manhandled by a few cops inside the police station in suburban Andheri and the clip went viral on social media platforms. “The man was detained as it initially appeared that he was molesting the woman”, Deshmukh said.
“No case was lodged against the couple and their parents were called to the police station”.
A station-house diary was made and their statements were recorded, he said.
According to police, the girl is a resident of suburban Nalasopara while the boy lives in Byculla in South Mumbai. The incident shamed the Mumbai police department.
In September, a girl was allegedly beaten up by a few women constables at the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh pandal here during the Ganesh festival.
This follows last week’s incident when two Muslim youth were told to go to Pakistan by a police constable inside the Bandra police station before being brutally assaulted in custody.
Later, an FIR was registered at Powai police station against Nalawade under relevant sections and subsequently he was suspended and arrested, police added.
