Maharashtra’s ‘Dr Death’ – five bodies unearthed
A Doctor who is called to be as “Dr. Death” was finally got arrested on Friday on charges of the abduction and murder of a woman in Maharashtra’s Wai town.
Maharashtra Police on Tuesday said they had found bodies of four of the six people murdered in cold blood by a self-confessed medico, Santosh Pol. The fifth victim was a woman named Salma Shaikh, who was killed a year ago, too.
On the motive behind the murder of five women and a man, Patil said that illicit relations and greed for gold and money might have prompted Pol to execute these killings.
“After our appeal, two people have come forward and informed the police that their respective family members are missing and suspected Dr Pol’s involvement in their disappearance”, Patil said.
Television footage showed police leading Pol around his farm, while other officers operated mechanical diggers as curious villagers watched.
Police said that investigations revealed that prior to leaving for Pune, she was in touch with Pol and both had a bitter fight when she threatened to reveal his (Pol’s) alleged shady and criminal activities.
Pol said he was in a relationship with both Jedhe and Mandre.
Nangre-Patil added that a probe would be conducted why the local police were scared of taking action against the accused pair if they had information about suspicious happenings at the farmhouse.
Past year police arrested an Indian doctor accused of trying to set a patient’s body on fire after he died during treatment.
Pol and his associates, including nurse Jyoti Mandre, allegedly abducted Jedhe from the Wai bus depot and took her to his farmhouse 13km away, where they gave her the lethal injection.
Meanwhile, a police team was busy digging Pol’s sprawling farmhouse land for possibly more bodies.
The persons whom Pol allegedly killed comprised five women and one man. Police are investigating whether he was involved in an organ transplant racket.
Police tracked down Pol to a place in Dadar in central Mumbai and arrested him on August 13. During her interrogation, Jyoti spilled the beans and told us whatever she knew about Pol.
“We then laid a trap and arrested Pol (on August 11), who was absconding after the murder”, Patil said. Pol committed the first of the six murders in 2003, when he killed Surekha Kisan Chikane, a resident of Wai, on May 20. They questioned Pol who on Monday night allegedly confessed to five more murders.
