Mahindra KUV100 engine specifications and variants revealed
Speaking about its name, Mahindra said that the letter K stands for Kool and / or Kompact, as that is what was the first reaction of people who were shown the auto.
Termed as the “most ambitious project under taken by Mahindra & Mahindra”, the Mahindra KUV100 features wrap-around head-lights with LED DRLs, shot overhangs, high shoulder line, sculpture bonnet and square wheel arches. This is the Mumbai-based automaker’s first petrol engine and is likely to power a range of cars in the future.
The KUV100 is powered by a new family of engines called mFalcon. The latter has already been launched on board the SsangYong Tivoli in Europe, while the 1.5 liter family of engines is under development.
The mFALCON G80 1.2-litre petrol engine will produce 82bhp and 114Nm of torque while the 1.2-litre mFALCON D75 diesel mill will produce 77bhp and 190Nm of torque. It is a turbocharged common rail diesel engine that generates max power of 77 bhp at 3,750 rpm and peak torque of 190 Nm at 1,750 – 2,250 rpm. Both these engines meet BSIV emission norms, and can be switched into BSV and BSVI. Interestingly, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has been roped in as the brand ambassador for the all-new Mahindra KUV100. Bookings for the vehicle open on December 19, 2015. The vehicle will be built at the company’s manufacturing facility at Chakan, Maharashtra. “After Renault’s Kwid compact auto caught the market’s attention with its SUV-ish design, 2016 will see the entry of more micro SUVS – Mahindra & Mahindra’s S101, Datsun’s Redi GO and leader Maruti Suzuki’s Ignis, which is expected by the festive season next year”, ET had reported in November.
Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra told reporters at the unveiling, “Though the prices of KUV 100 will only be revealed at its launch on January 15, it will not disappoint its potential buyers like other M&M offerings”. Being a listening organization, we identified the need gaps among consumers and started planning for the product.
