Maisie Williams isn’t playing a returning character in Doctor Who… unless
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’ guest-starring role on Doctor Who is still being kept a secret, but the show’s executive producer gave fans a hint about what to expect from her upcoming appearance.
BBC Worldwide North America made the big announcement on Tuesday, July 28, and revealed that the screening special will include the two-part season eight finale in 3-D as well as a never-before-seen season nine prequel scene.
“I had no idea how to play Doctor Who“, he said. And it’s clearly is something Steven Moffat has enjoyed teasing out since the Doctor Who season 9 trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con-at a panel we covered in-depth-ended on the cryptic teasing by Williams’ character, “What took you so long, old man?”
Will star Peter Capaldi follow in Matt Smith and David Tennant’s footsteps and exit the title role after three seasons?
“It’s a significant role, we’re not throwing the role away”, he told reporters at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. As reported by Deadline, Moffat said, “She isn’t playing a returning character or someone in the Doctor’s past. She does put the Doctor to the test and it’s sort of a dynamic that we haven’t seen before”. “We’re not just getting star value and doing nothing with it”, he said, adding: “She is a brand new character, not someone from The Doctor’s past, unless I’m lying”.
“There’s been a lot of speculation about whether she’s like a younger Clara or whether she is a new character completely”, she revealed earlier in the year.
“Peter is going to play the part for the rest of time”, laughed Moffat.
Clara’s “perspective on life has changed” in the new season, her portrayer Jenna Coleman previewed.
When Arya Stark shows up in the TARDIS, there’s no telling who she’ll be. “She can throw herself into adventures head first”.
