Major doping scandal potentially exposed — Leaked IAAF files
The matter has inevitably been brought to the attention of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and its representative expressed their shock at hearing the news before reiterating that they would be doing everything possible to get to the bottom of this crisis.
“Given the nature of these allegations, which are an extension to those that were raised by ARD’s December 2014 documentary, they will immediately be handed over to WADA’s Independent Commission for further investigation”.
Reedie said the findings would be turned over to WADA’s independent commission for investigation, but also stressed that the claims were unproven.
These reported leaks can shake the foundation of athletics around the world to its very core. So that’s a concern. “I stress that athletes are innocent until proven guilty”.
Russian and Kenyan athletes featured strongly in the programme aired just three weeks before the start of the world championships in Beijing.
IAAF vice-president Sergei Bubka said the federation would look into the allegations and co-operate with WADA.
“The IAAF is translating the script as it is important to clearly understand the specific allegations”.
“We call on the IAAF, as the world governing body for the sport, to clarify the situation and step up its already leading efforts to combat the scourge of doping”, added Hansen, who outside of his official role trades in stamps. We will not stop the fight.
Reedie said at an global Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting that the numbers involved and the extent of the use of blood doping had shocked him.
The IAAF said that before the introduction in 2009 of the biological passport its testers had “systematically pursued” all results that were deemed “atypical” with immediate urine tests and then target-tested those athletes in and out of competition.
Another allegation is that more than a third of the world’s fastest times in endurance events were recorded by athletes whose tests have triggered suspicion.
Ten medals at the London 2012 games are said to have been won by athletes in the abnormal range, with Sunday’s revelations revealing a sport in a “diabolical state” according to one expert, who drew parallels with the dirty Tour de France wins by Lance Armstrong when doping infiltrated the peloton. The newspaper claims none of those medals have been taken away by the authorities.
The blood-doping files show that British athletes finished behind rivals with suspicious test results 26 times at major championships between 2001 and 2012.
– Seven Britons had suspicious blood scores.
It is alleged that a top British athlete is among those implicated in the data, although both Mo Farah and Usain Bolt have not recorded abnormal results.
6 Twenty-one athletes recorded blood values so extreme they risked heart attacks or strokes, and should have been given emergency treatment to have their blood drained.
