‘Make Room for Daddy’ star Marjorie Lord dies at 97
Up to date: 09:44 EST, 12 December 2015 Make Room For Daddy & sitcom wife of Danny Thomas, Marjorie Lord, has died aged 97.
She added that she thinks that the actress had the best parties of her life in the past two years as she had family and friends around her nonstop for all the last years of her life. The actress was extremely involved in supporting the arts in Los Angeles throughout her life.
Wollenberg in San Francisco, Lord’s acting career began on stage in 1936, and she transitioned to screen acting the following year, with a small par t in the movie “Border Cafe”.
In an interview quoted on her fan page, she revealed: ‘I always wanted to act, and was very well prepared when I was given a role, on Broadway, in The Old Maid. Before moving to television, she starred in a number of films including Shantytown, Sherlock Holmes in Washington (opposite her then-husband, John Archer), Escape From Hong Kong, and Chain Gang.
Lord played Kathy Williams, wife of the Danny Thomas character Danny Williams in “Make Room for Daddy” show between 1957 and 1964.
Lord married producer Randolph Hale in 1958 and was widowed when Hale died in 1974. The actress appeared on the show for seven seasons, and in the spinoff Make Room for Granddaddy for its first and only season.
She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Together, they established the Scripter Award, which recognizes authors and screenwriters and benefits the library program at the University of Southern California.
In addition to Archer, Lord’s survivors include a son, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
