Making Coke at home? Keurig introduces ‘Kold’ machine
Still, the company’s coffeemakers are already ubiquitous in workplaces around the country, so it’s not hard to imagine Keurig will push the new Kold heavily in the enterprise market.
US-based coffee-brewing company Keurig Green Mountain has launched a countertop pod machine to make carbonated drinks at home, a move to offset the decline in its core business of single-serve coffee pods and brewers and wrest marketshare from rival SodaStream. These include favorite beverages from the stable of Coca-Cola Co. Meanwhile, the sugary drink market has suffered in recent years because of health concerns. Finally, Susquehanna reissued a buy rating and issued a $117.00 price target on shares of Keurig Green Mountain in a report on Tuesday, August 4th.
“Keurig has redefined the way consumers enjoy coffee and tea in their homes and offices and today with the launch of Keurig Kold, we’re embarking on a new journey that will change the way consumers enjoy cold beverages at home”, said Brian Kelley, president and CEO of Keurig, said in a press release. Equities research analysts expect that Keurig Green Mountain will post $3.42 earnings per share for the current fiscal year. The release of the KOLD system was originally expected later in the fall.
In addition to going on sale on its website Tuesday, the company says the Kold will be available starting in October at select retailers in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York. A complaint among a few users is that the carbonation comes from a Carbon dioxide canister, which needs to be replaced every several weeks or so, depending on how often it’s used.
Perfectly portioned. Keurig® KOLD™ delivers beverages at an eight-ounce portion size, and almost all beverages have 100 calories or less. The pods don’t have to be refrigerated.
Coca-Cola is betting big on Keurig Kold, too; the company owns a minority stake in Keurig Green Mountain. The inclusion of their great brands strengthens the appeal of Keurig KOLD.
Keurig started working on a cold-drink product six years ago and faced three major hurdles: temperature, carbonation and taste, Kelley said.
From the Dr Pepper Snapple Group: Dr Pepper®, Canada Dry®. That doesn’t include the soda flavoring. Keurig has also made a few flavors of its own, like flavored seltzer and a sports drink. The home soda fountain works with Kold Pods, which will cost between $4.49 and $4.99.
