Malaysia Arrests Kosovar For Hacking US Data For Islamic State
A Kosovo citizen has-been arrested (taken in to custody) in Kuala Lumpur for pc hacking & allegedly offering details about US service members to the Islamic State group (ISIS), Malaysian & USA authorities stated. He allegedly hacked into an online retailer, stole personal information, and then published a list of military and USA government employees. In September, Hussain, who went by the nom de guerre Abu Hussain al-Britani, was killed in a drone strike in Syria.
“This case is a first of its kind and, with these charges, we seek to hold Ferizi accountable for his theft of this information and his role in ISIL’s targeting of USA government employees”, said Assistant Attorney General Carlin. The U.S.is said to be seeking his extradition to the U.S.to stand trial.
The activity prompted the Islamic State Hacking Division to tweet a message to “crusaders” engaged in a “bombing campaign” against Muslims: “We are in your emails and computer systems, watching and recording your every move, we have your names and addresses … we are extracting confidential data and passing on your personal information to the soldiers of the khilafah, who soon with the permission of Allah will strike your necks in your own lands!”
Malaysia has arrested a man on charges of hacking into the personal information of more than a thousand USA security officials and handing the database to the Islamic State militant group in Syria so it could target the individuals. Ferizi could face up to 35 years in prison if convicted.
He also was in contact with one of two gunmen who opened fire at a contest in Garland, Texas, featuring caricatures of the prophet Muhammad, according to the complaint.
Officials believe that he led a Kosovar hacking group called Kosovar Hackers Security (KHS), which knew him by the moniker Th3Dir3ctorY. When the Federal Bureau of Investigation reviewed the company’s server, agents tracked the intrusion to a computer with an Internet address in Malaysia, Gallagher said.
Mr Ferizi entered Malaysia in August previous year to study computer science in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian police said.
