Malaysian agency: money in Najib’s accounts came from donors
In a report in June, US-based daily Wall Street Journal, citing documents from Malaysian investigators now scrutinising the troubled 1MDB’s financials, claimed that a money trail showed that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) was moved among government agencies, banks and companies before it ended up in Najib’s accounts, two months before the 13 general election in May 2013. “But he has lost the moral authority to speak about governance”. 1MDB has denied transferring funds to Najib and an interim government report found nothing suspicious.
The Prime Minister has refused to resign pending the outcome of the investigations, saying the allegations are part of a malicious campaign to force him from office.
The commission’s response comes on the heels of Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail’s sudden end of tenure last Monday.
It was investigating allegations funds were transferred to Mr Razak from the 1MDB state investment fund he set up.
The suspect is the third person hauled up over the weekend following the arrest of a former MACC adviser and an A-G’s Chambers officer.

The appointees will need to step down from the group and the probe will be halted until new members can be named in October when Parliament reconvenes, according to its chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who was named deputy home minister.
“However, MACC said its researching into SRC internationaly related to RM4 billion is yet ongoing”.
He said the critics are now questioning why it took so long for the MACC to confirm that the money was not 1MDB funds and why it was not confirmed on the first day.
