Mamadou Sakho Wants Crunch Meeting With Liverpool Over Future
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is said to be considering his future and the club and could be set for a surprise switch to Bayer Leverkusen, according to L’Equipe (via the Daily Star).
Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly keen to sign Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.
Sakho is concerned a lack of regular first team football could see him lose his France spot ahead of Euro 2016 and is not prepared to risk that potential fate.
The news comes after reports claimed the Champions League hopefuls saw an initial enquiry rejected, while the Liverpool Echo reported that Italian side Roma saw a loan move with a view to a permanent transfer rebuffed “without hesitation” last week. He is yet to make an appearance for the Reds this season as the partnership of Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren seems to be preferred by Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Sakho moved to Merseyside from Paris Saint-Germain in September 2013 and has made 46 appearances across two seasons overall.
With Kolo Toure, Joe Gomez and Tiago Ilori all providing alternatives to Skrtel and Lovren, Rodgers is certainly well-stocked in the centre-back position.
Meanwhile, ESPN FC report that “the Reds have no plans to do a deal”.
The fan-created narrative is that Sakho missed the Stoke game due to the birth of his daughter, but the Frenchman trained all week, and travelled to the game, yet didn’t even get a place on the bench. Why?
Of course, Liverpool can force Sakho to stay (just as they did with Suarez), but there’s little benefit in keeping an unhappy player in the squad.
