Man accused of beating 4-month-old to death while driving
Doctors removed a 4-month-old baby from life support Saturday night, and now his father is charged with his murder.
That witness, Dena Stevenson, described driving down South Dixie Highway in Kentucky for a stretch of about seven miles, watching another driver apparently striking something in the passenger seat with his hand.
They want to see that his father, Daniel Cox, gets the maximum punishment for the crime police said he committed.
Stevenson and her husband were concerned for the child and so they called 911.
“He would hit the child. Twist his hat and hit the child again”, she said.
Radcliff police had received a call shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday of an incident on U.S. 31 that police think is connected to the defendant.
“It isn’t often that we have child-abuse cases of this magnitude”, he said.
Jayceon was his mother’s only child.
It was too difficult for the family to go on camera, but WHAS11 did speak with a neighbor and friend of the mother who says baby Jayceon will be hard to forget.
Photographs filed with the court showed the baby with severe swelling on his head, a swollen and blackened left eye, swelling on his right cheek and deep bruising on his back and buttocks.
When police arrived, “we found that there was a small child that was unresponsive”, Cross said.
Cox, who is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center, was initially charged with first-degree criminal abuse Friday in connection with the boy’s assault, Cross said.
