Man accused of killing 7 people in New Jersey, Pennsylvania
He’s charged in the May fatal shooting of his cousin.
Two other men, 23-year-old Kareem Mitchell and 20-year-old Robert Jourdain were charged with homicide as West’s accomplices.
The killings began in Elizabeth, N.J., in mid-May and ended 70 miles away in Pennsylvania on Sunday, when three people were shot in the middle of the night, two as they sat in a auto.
West was already wanted for the shootings in the neighboring state of New Jersey when Pennsylvania authorities picked him up, according to prosecutors, CNN affiliate WFMZ reported.
West faces charges including seven counts of homicide and one count of attempted murder. West’s cousin and Payne were the only two victims he knew, according to the New York Times.
He was serving a sentence for drug charges and for resisting arrest and eluding police while operating a motor vehicle, corrections department records show.
Early morning June 25, Dennis Vega, 28, of Elizabeth was found lying on the ground with critical gunshot wounds.
(CNN) – By the time police caught up with Todd West this week, the 22-year-old New Jersey man had allegedly gunned down seven people and wounded another in a rampage that stretched across two states, according to prosecutors.
“I don’t know how you would define a mass killer, all I would say is that we have never seen one individual commit this type of shooting spree, murder spree in such a short period of time here in this county”.
He is then believed to have headed to Pennsylvania where he is said to have murdered three more people on the 5th of July.
Kory Ketrow, 22, was fatally shot shortly after 3 a.m.in Easton as he was walking home from a friend’s house. Nelson was later found dead from numerous gunshot wounds. Trevor Davanta Hall Gray, 21, had also been shot and was found leaning against a parked vehicle.
On Sunday, police said.
West identified an Easton man as having purchased the ammunition used in the Pennsylvania shootings and a Newark man as the person who drove him to both crime scenes. Police say West, riding around in a white auto, shot and killed Vega on the corner of New Point Road and Seventh Street at 2:30 a.m. on June 25. The occupants of the auto were not injured.
