Man arrested for alleged attempt to support IS group
Further investigation determined that Nagi pledged allegiance to ISIL and the leader of the terrorist group, Abu Bakr al Bagdadi.
Mr. Nagi is due in court…
If convicted, the charges carry a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Once seized, investigators found a conversation from August 2013 between Nagi and an individual identified as “Nada” on his iPhone that referenced a trip Nagi took to Turkey in October 2012. It appears, according to authorities, that he was working alone in the states.
Now neighbors are concerned that there may be more people like Nagi living in their community. The confrontation began when Nagi allegedly threatened her daughter and a friend, pulling his vehicle alongside the pair and displaying a large knife.
The search warrant was executed at a home near Olcott Street and Ingham Avenue.
According to prosecutors, Nagi traveled to Syria and Yemen to join ISIS in 2012 and 2014 and even bought military gear on eBay. “Nagi expressed agreement with” ISIS tactics that included “killing of innocent men, women and children, believing that they were justified because the victims were not Muslims”. A law enforcement truck remained parked outside his house Wednesday afternoon following a raid earlier in the day.
The home is one block away from a home where two members of the Lackawanna Six lived.
The 44-year-old is said to have traveled to Turkey two times in attempts to link up with the terrorist group.
“There were rumors going around that he was aiding”, said one nearby resident who spoke on condition of anonymity. I don’t know what’s going on.
Hochul was joined by representatives of the FBI, the state police and other local agencies. He was arrested and charged with supporting a terrorist group.
