Man Arrested in Connection With Fatal Shooting of Texas Student
He was located in Yuma, Arizona and arrested after the warrant was served by the U.S. Marshals Service Tuesday morning.
Police in Denton, Texas, arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old University of North Texas student.
Hundreds of people stood outside the Greek Life Center to pay tribute to the young woman at a candlelight vigil for Mutschlechner over the weekend on the University of North Texas campus, according to the station.
Police didn’t release any other details, and said they will hold a news conference later today to talk about the arrest.
Witnesses say Sara Mutschlechner was the designated driver for a New Years Eve Party in Denton. As both vehicles began driving away, someone in the SUV opened fire at the auto Mutschlechner was driving, hitting it several times. Someone in the SUV fired, and Mutschlechner was struck by a bullet before she crashed her vehicle.
Pursuant to the shooting, Mutschlechner, philanthropy chair of the school’s Zeta Tau Alpha chapter, was taken to hospital and placed on life support before being pronounced dead hours later on January 1.
Responding police found the TV and film studies major lying on the ground. One of her friends also suffered minor injuries.
