Man arrested in New Orleans shooting video
Cain was arrested by police and federal marshals at a house in New Orleans on Monday.
More information will be provided at a 2 p.m. press conference.
The New Orleans man who shot a medical student after assaulting a woman has been arrested.
News4Jax has learned that the victim, Peter Gold (pictured below) is from Orlando and has a relative living in Jacksonville and News4Jax spoke with the victim’s cousin Monday evening.
Two women were found inside the Uptown house along with Cain. When he went to the intersection, he told police, he saw Cain holding his phone and then getting into a Toyota Camry with another man.
Investigators are offering a $US12,500 ($NZ19,000) reward for the capture of the robbery suspect. “There is no question – now that we know who he is – that he will be brought to justice”, said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. When the student said he didn’t have any, the gunman became enraged and shot him in the stomach.
The criminal can be seen here pointing the weapon at Gold’s head, which would have resulted in nearly certain death had the gun not malfunctioned.
Flot stated that the Cain responded by flying into a rage and shooting Gold in the stomach.
According to police, the suspect was dragging the woman to his parked SUV, when Gold stepped in and tried to help her.
Another security camera shows a man approach the woman.
New Orleans police said Cain then demanded money from the student.
His shooting was caught on surveillance video.
An elite NOPD unit collared Cain during a morning raid on a home on the 2200 block of Delachaise Street. Detectives were able to identify Cain as the suspect.
Cain’s 17-year-old girlfriend is facing charges as an accessory to the crime, police said.
Below is the video of the robbery.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison praised Gold for his heroism, according to WWL.
Tulane President Mike Fitts said in a statement that Mr Gold was taken to hospital but was “expected to make a full recovery”.
Police said the robber grabbed the woman’s purse and left.
“Police worked around the clock and now he will likely spend the rest of his life in jail, as he should”, Landrieu said.
“We know who you are and you need to know that we are going to find you”. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle in 2014.
