Man calls 911, later admits killing girlfriend
A man charged with murdering his girlfriend admitted to disemboweling her with his bare hands after she twice cried out her ex-husband’s name during sex, police said.
Fidel Lopez, 24, claimed they had been having “rough sex fueled by Tequila” when his girlfriend went to the bathroom, where she vomited and collapsed.
When first responders arrived, they found Lopez standing next to Nemeth’s lifeless body, crying for help, according to the report.
In a subsequent interview, however, Lopez acknowledged that he flew into a rage – saying he became a “monster” – when Nemeth uttered her ex-husband’s name twice during sex, according to the report.
Lopez was arrested on a first-degree murder charge on Sunday afternoon and is being held in jail.
He went back to the closet where Nemeth was lying unconscious and he started inserting a beer bottle, a flat iron for hair, and both fists inside of her, investigators said.
Lopez checked on Nemeth a final time, and upon discovering that she was not breathing, called 911. Police also observed holes in the dry wall and a closet door that had been removed and was lying on the hallway floor, and began to suspect a struggle and foul play.
Neighbors told officers that loud noise could be heard coming from the home for several hours.
Lopez admitted to leaving Nemeth in the closet where they were having sex and started breaking things throughout the apartment. Lopez then washed the blood off his hands in the bathroom sink, went outside to smoke a cigarette and then began to panic, taking items from the closet to cover up the bloody tissue, the report said.
Eventually, Lopez placed his arm up to his elbow inside of the young woman’s body and ripped out a part of her intestines. Lopez told officers that he carried Nemeth to the bathroom where he put water on her face in hopes of waking her up. Nemeth was so intoxicated she didn’t resist, according to Lopez.
Nemeth’s neighbors were stunned and horrified by the news.
Nemeth worked in the leasing office at the Colonnade Residences, where her body was found.
Neighbour Dan Carter said: “I can not imagine this happening to anyone especially someone as sweet as this young lady”.
