Man charged over assault of woman at AFL
Perth Stadium management confirmed the 24-year-old man was not a member of the Fremantle Football Club and that he would be banned for life from attending any events at the stadium. He’s been charged with common assault, obstructing a police officer, and disorderly behaviour in a public place.
AFL boss Gillon McLachlan speaks to the media in Perth on Saturday afternoon.
Mr McLachlan has said the behavior will not be tolerated and all men women and children should feel safe at AFL games.
“There was an incident last night, in particular, that was completely unacceptable and doesn’t represent our game in any way”, McLachlan told a media gathering.
“The supporter that was four seats up from me got really agitated and irritated that his team was losing and suddenly just lost it”, she said.
The Hawks have beaten Fremantle in seven of their last eight meetings, including a 72-point mauling in Launceston in round 15, but Bruce said that would count for little on Friday night when they go head to head with the Dockers, who have generally stamped their authority on games early this year.
The 38-year-old victim, who had asked the man to tone down his language, was treated by St John Ambulance officers for minor injuries.
“We’re going to continue to tackle the issues that mean every person – man, woman and child – can go to our games and have a fantastic three hours”.
AFL | A week of speculation about a shock AFL preliminary final recall for Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley has come to nothing.
Speaking under the pseudonym Sarah, the victim told Triple M on Saturday morning that she feared for her children’s safety.
When he started walking toward me I just knew that I had to stand between him and my kids.
She says he replied that he didn’t “give a f*** about her children” before hitting her throat with the webbing between his thumb and first finger.
A Fremantle supporter recoiled to hit Isaac Smith as he retrieved a ball on the boundary and Luke Breust appeared to struck by a fan hanging over the fence – the man was ejected from the game.
The AFL used Twitter to voice their disgust over the incident.
