Man charged with murdering Morgan Freeman relative
A 30-year-old man was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, the granddaughter of Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, police said Monday.
The 65-year-old continued: “The girl was making a lot of noise, screaming”.
Her own neighbors said they witnessed the killing, unable to shake the violent and disturbing image from their minds.
“He was yelling, ‘Jesus Christ is born!’ at the top of his lungs”, Bryndon Tarafa, 28, told the website. “I cast you out, devils!” as he assaulted Hines. Davenport was taken to Columbia-NY Presbyterian for medical evaluation.
Freeman released a statement over the weekend that read: “The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer”.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her grieving family. “May she rest in peace”, he stated.
Hines, whose grandmother, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, was the Batman star’s first wife, was stabbed shortly before 3am yesterday in Harlem.
After receiving multiple stab wounds to her torso, the starlet was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
There are no clear reasons as to whether there was an altercation or what led to the stabbing; but the Police have taken Davenport into legal custody.
One witness spoke to authorities telling them it appeared that Davenport had been trying to perform an exorcism. The couple divorced in 1979, after 12 years of marriage, and he always referred to Hines as his granddaughter.
Freeman thanked everyone on his Facebook page Sunday night for all the outpouring of support and love.
“My dream has come true and it’s just beginning”, she wrote in a blog post last month.
The victim, E’dena Hines, was a 33-year-old Broadway actress who occasionally attended events and premieres with her famous step-grandfather.
She studied acting at New York University’s prestigious Graduate Acting Program.
