Man City 3-1 Southampton
Manchester City rebounded emphatically from two disappointing losses with a 3-1 win over Southampton in the English Premier League on Saturday, but lost Sergio Aguero to another injury.
City grabbed three of the 23 goals in the day’s first five games, beating Southampton 3-1 to end a sobering week on a high after losses to Liverpool in the Premier League and Juventus in the Champions League.
“City looked as though they would win even more comfortably when Kevin de Bruyne scored his seventh goal of the season and Fabian Delph his first of the campaign to put the home side 2-0 up after 20 minutes”.
City needed the three points badly and Pellegrini was delighted with the response from his players. “David is a very important player, the same as Kun – one of the players that is very hard to replace”.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini allayed fears the Argentine faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines but added to the confusion with his explanation of Aguero’s injury.
The Dutchman said: “It is not a question about tactics, about players or about the line-up if we make the kind of mistakes we did in the first 20 minutes”.
Midfielder Steven Davis says he is expecting a backlash on Saturday when Southampton travel to Manchester City who have lost back-to-back games.
Sterling fired over when presented with a great chance to make it 3-0, and Saints pulled one back early in the second half as Long powered in a header from a superb cross by Saido Mane.

Meanwhile, Southampton have had to endure a hard start to the campaign and have been pretty underwhelming at times, compared to what they managed last season under Ronald Koeman.
