Man City go second after Bournemouth win
Pep Guardiola has indicated that Sergio Aguero could yet leave Manchester City this summer, despite declaring that he wants to keep the forward.
Eddie Howe’s side remain 14th, six points off the relegation places, but they are on a downward spiral defensively.
City will find out the extent of the problem on Tuesday. Chelsea have to lose three games and we have to win all the games. “It is important to score goals, we are in deficit but it is OK”.
Manchester City jumped Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool to hit 52 points with the win and pull within eight of first-place Chelsea. “I felt we worked incredibly hard, were disciplined in defensive shape, rode our luck in stages but it was an even, competitive game”.
Jesus, who had scored three goals in his first four City appearances before the game at the Vitality Stadium, appeared to twist his ankle in the first-half before being replaced by Sergio Aguero.
“I know how tough Bournemouth are. Any injuries we get to established first-team players are going to be hard to manage”.
Guardiola talked in glowing terms about a previous occasion when he watched Wilshere as he said, “I remember in Barcelona and that year we played Arsenal”.
“Credit to them they pushed and pushed and luckily we got the two goals”. Mings puts through his own goal under pressure from Aguero and City make it 2-0 against the run of play, following a good run down the left, stepover and cross from Sterling.
“Tonight is not going to define our season”.
The hosts made a positive start to the second half but struggled to create any clear-cut chances.Harry Arter came close to getting his team back on level terms after 67 minutes, but Caballero leaped to his right to pat away his long-range effort. “You expect that they are going to lose games, but it is so, so hard [for City] to win all the games”, he added, having been impressed by Antonio Conte’s men in their 1-1 draw at Burnley on Sunday. Of the XI that started against City, only one (Ibe) remains from the almost £80 million spent on the squad since promotion to the Premier League in 2015.
