Man City V Liverpool at Etihad Stadium
Manchester City’s hope of going top of the English Premier League was promptly dashed by an impressive Liverpool side who comprehensively thrashed their opponents 4-1 away from home.
Losing out to Crystal Palace at Anfield in their last game before the break, Liverpool will want to bounce back immediately with a victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini spoke of his anger after the game, describing the performance as a “disaster”, but must now focus on Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Juventus.
But David Silva and Vincent Kompany are unavailable due to their respective ankle and calf problems.
City have scored 19 goals in six matches at home, claiming 15 points, and are one of the most consistent teams in the last four years, winning two titles and finishing runner-up on the other occasions.

“It was very good, not flawless because we can defend better, but when you win 4-1 against Man City it is very good and it was deserved”. I told you a few weeks ago that I know about his quality and how he could train in 12 days with us without interruption. “Maybe we should. But first of all, five years contract, everyone wants to see more of him but we have to find the right balance and we’ll see”.
“We worked well during the week, I don’t believe the way we played”. His fourth goal against them secured the Reds three points which take them to ninth in the table, only one point adrift of fifth place. City looked to run of ideas quickly in the second half and lost control of the midfield very quickly.
“For me it’s a pleasure to be top and we’ll continue to try to be – it doesn’t matter what happens, we’re always the favourites with the media and seen as the team to beat”.
