Man Crushed To Death In Elevator Accident At Upscale Williamsburg Building
Police say they responded to a 911 call at about 4:18 a.m.at 156 Hope St.
The man, who lived in Queens, was found unconscious with trauma to his head and torso, authorities said.
The man tried to climb out through the open doors, but the elevator moved again and crushed him, Stern reported.
Investigators say the victim, who sources identify as Eran Modan, 37, was inside the elevator with other people when it began to jerk while in motion.
Witnesses told the New York Daily News a different story, however, “The elevator just dropped and then shoots up”, said Modan’s friend, Mona Zarrin Ramsdell.
Within minutes, he realized it was malfunctioning and proceeded to exit, when the elevator dropped three feet.
When Mr Modan tried to step out of the elevator, it lurched down suddenly, trapping his upper body between the top of the lift and the floor.
According to another, “Elevator will only go up and only opens half way”.
Building resident Pez Epstein, 44, said the elevator has had “lots of problems” in the past.
“These are things that we have to use just like so many people have to commute in cars when that’s such a risky thing to do”, another resident said.
The Brooklyn company is in charge of maintaining the elevator. Hurling said the elevator has monthly maintenance.
A man died early Friday morning in an elevator accident at a luxury apartment complex in Brooklyn.
The buildings department commissioner said there were no prior outstanding issues with the elevator and the investigation is ongoing.
